Program Overview
The Studio Art degree with a concentration in New Media Art at UNT is an interdisciplinary program that focuses on the use of technology in contemporary art. Students engage in experimental filmmaking, generative art, digital fabrication, performance, virtual and augmented reality, and experimental sound. Taught by active artists and scholars, the program prepares graduates for careers in fine art, instruction, and various roles in the technology and arts industries.

Degree Overview:
The Studio Art degree with a concentration in New Media Art is an interdisciplinary and collaborative program that focuses on the human relationship with technology, as an emergent tool for creating contemporary art. This practice is rooted in the historical traditions of avant-garde and experimental art-making and responds to the rapid pace of technological development. Areas of study in New Media Art include experimental filmmaking, generative art, digital fabrication, performance, virtual and augmented reality and experimental sound.
Teaching:
- The program is taught by active artists and scholars whose works are displayed in venues such as the MoMA PS1 art center in New York, the Arnolfini in England, the National Museum of China and the Mejan Labs in Sweden.
- The program is also involved with UNT's Initiative for Advanced Research in Technology and the Arts, which provides unique opportunities to collaborate with students and faculty members in the College of Engineering, the College of Music and the Department of Media Arts, among others.
- Classes are taught in state-of-the-art labs, which are available for use beyond regular class time, and we also have an array of audio, visual and other related equipment available for checkout.
Careers:
- Graduates are prepared to continue higher education in a new media art graduate program.
- They may instruct workshops or classes at colleges, universities, local arts organizations, museums, galleries or online.
- Graduates can work as fine artists, creating and selling work for online or gallery exhibitions and shows.
- Other potential career paths include: film editor, film/video game art director, audio technician or creator, graphic artist, animator, visual display or storyboard creator, web designer, studio assistant, lab technician, digital curator, gallerist, and art technology consultant.
