Program Description

The Sports Journalism certificate program teaches sports reporting, feature writing, column writing and visual news storytelling for web, broadcast and print. Students also study the impact of sports in society, sports as entertainment and business, and the ethics of sports journalism.

• Sport Media Relations (3 hrs): Explores the purpose, processes and careers in sport media relations
• Fundamentals of Public Relations Practices (3 hrs): Broad overview of public relations practices
• Digital Media for Journalists (3 hrs): Fast-paced course providing students principles and practice in using digital tools
• Strategic Social Media (3 hrs): Explores strategic applications of social media platforms
• Sports Journalism (3 hrs): Teaches sports reporting, writing, photojournalism and performance for multi-platform use
• Introduction to Visual Communication for News (3 hrs): Introduction to basic video photography and editing, still photography and editing, and audio recording and editing
