Elementary Education (MEd) Program Overview

The Master of Education (MEd) in Elementary Education at Xavier University is designed to equip students with the advanced knowledge and practical skills needed to be impactful leaders in the classroom. This program offers a blend of theoretical foundation and hands-on experience, preparing students to create dynamic and engaging learning environments for students from pre-K through grade 9.


Admission Criteria

Applications are accepted throughout the year from students with a bachelor's degree and a solid academic background. Students may begin the program in the summer, fall, or spring term. The admission criteria include:

  • Official transcripts of all previous undergraduate and graduate coursework
  • Official test scores from the Graduate Record Exam (GRE)

Curriculum

The MEd in Elementary Education requires 30 credit hours, consisting of 9 hours in core courses and 21 hours of electives. The core requirements include:


  • EDFD 500 - History/Philosophy of Am Educ
  • EDFD 505 - Org of Ed Systems in U.S.
  • EDFD 507 - Educational Research The remaining 21 credit hours are comprised of elective courses.

Tuition and Fees

The tuition for the MEd, MA, and Non-degree Licensure/Endorsement and Certificates is $660 per credit hour. Additional fees include:


  • Student ID Fee: $12.50
  • Graduate Student Association Fee (degree-seeking full-time): $15 per semester
  • Graduate Student Association Fee (degree-seeking part-time): $10 per semester

Licensure Options

In addition to the 30 credit hours of coursework required for the degree, graduate students can add classes for licensure in Early Childhood or Middle Childhood Education. The program also offers specialized endorsements designed to help students meet the evolving needs of today's students.
