Degree Overview:
The Audio Recording and Production BA program at SUNY Oswego prepares students for work in the sound recording and production industry across several platforms. It is responsive to contemporary industry demands for a more specific and hands-on educational background.
Objectives:
- To develop critical listening skills and the ability to appraise live and recorded musical performances.
- To gain a greater understanding of the business of music.
Program Description:
The major includes core courses in music theory, history, and application. Students learn a broad range of audio production techniques applicable to music, theater, and electronic media. They also have the opportunity to pursue further subjects on the physics of sound and music, the art of songwriting, and the business of music.
Teaching:
- The program features rigorous recording technology instruction and production experience.
- Students gain practical experience through internships at arts and broadcasting organizations in Central New York.
- The program utilizes a fully-equipped multi-station computer MIDI lab and a digital multi-track based recording studio in the renovated Tyler Hall.
