Overview
The Master of Art in Teaching (MAT) Art program at SUNY Oswego is designed for individuals with a Bachelor of Fine Arts or at least 72 credits in a range of fine arts areas. This program explores children's developmental art processes and explains why art education is so important in today's schools. Throughout the coursework and student teaching experiences, students will develop as teachers from day one.

Curriculum
The Master of Art in Teaching program includes foundational education courses that provide a theoretical foundation to push practice to new levels of effectiveness and impact.
Outcomes
The program will prepare students to teach art in public schools in kindergarten through 12th grade. As a student in SUNY Oswego's nationally accredited program, students will expand their skill set in art and gain the necessary theoretical and practical foundation to create appropriate art lessons, units, and assessments. Following completion of the program and NYS certification exams, candidates are eligible for New York State initial teaching certification.

- Official transcript: Submit official transcripts confirming a bachelor's or master's degree/advanced certificate.
- GPA: A cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better is recommended.
- Portfolio: Submit ten or more samples of work as digital files in the area of interest.
- Education essay: Describe personal achievements relating to academic interests and detail educational and professional objectives.
- Resume: Include a professional resume or curriculum vitae.
- Two letters of recommendation: Indicate two names with valid email addresses.
- Application fee: A non-refundable $65 fee for processing the application.
