Program Overview
Doctor of Nursing Practice Program
The Doctor of Nursing Practice program at the College of Nursing and Health Sciences at Texas A&M University Corpus Christi is designed to provide learning experiences to nurses with advanced preparation. The program aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills essential for reducing the incidence and impact of preventable disease and injury within their communities, improving administration of delivery systems, policymaking, and design or expansion of educational programs.
Program Details
This program prepares graduates to provide the most advanced level of nursing care for individuals, families, organizations, and communities. This includes direct care of individual patients, management of care for individuals and populations, administration of nursing systems, development and implementation of health policy, and teaching nurses in both basic and specialty programs.
Program Tracks
The DNP Program includes two specialty tracks:
- Nurse Practitioner (NP) Track
- Executive Leadership (ExL) Track
Accreditation
The Doctor of Nursing Practice program at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
Application Deadlines
The Doctor of Nursing Practice program uses a rolling admission process during the admissions cycle. However, students are encouraged to apply early to allow for enough time to also apply for and qualify for federal student aid and scholarships.
Application Requirements
To apply for the Doctor of Nursing Practice program, students must:
- Apply for Admission via the Apply Texas Application
- Pay a $50 application fee for US citizens or $70 for International Students
- Submit official transcripts documenting all undergraduate and graduate coursework taken at any accredited college or university attended
- Have earned a GPA of 3.0 or higher (4.0 scale) in the last 60 credit hours of graduate coursework
- Submit a resume
- Must have an unencumbered Texas, or Compact RN License for Executive Leadership Track and APRN Texas License for Nurse Practitioner Track
- Have 2 references submit the CONHS Reference Form
- Complete a criminal background check
- Complete a ten-panel non-chain of custody urine drug screen
- Purchase professional liability coverage through the University
- Meet Texas Department of State Health Services immunization requirements for students involved with direct patient contact
- Provide results of tuberculosis screening annually
- Hold a Current American Heart Association CPR Type C certification
Additional International Applicant Requirements
International applicants must also:
- Provide a copy of their current Visa (if applicable)
- Demonstrate English Language Proficiency through the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) within the last 2 years
Program Specific Requirements
- Nurse Practitioner Track: Have earned a Master of Science in Nursing degree from an accredited institution
- Executive Leadership Track: Have an earned Master of Science in Nursing with an administration focus or equivalent
- Equivalent degrees include Master of Business Administration, Master of Healthcare Administration, and Master of Public Administration
- Applicants must be prepared to submit program descriptions for evaluation of equivalency
