The Alternative Certification of Educators (ACE) program is an initial teaching certification program designed for candidates who hold an undergraduate degree and wish to seek an initial teaching certification in an accelerated manner.
Program Overview
Through ACE, candidates can take courses through an award-winning teacher education program at a respected university, complete teacher certification courses online in a year or less, and pay approximately $7,000 total, including tuition, texts, materials, and test and certificate fees. Candidates may also apply their certification credits toward a master's degree if they decide to continue their education.
Program Details
The ACE program only leads to certification in 4-8 Mathematics or EC-6 Core Subjects. To see the full degree plan, candidates can view the course catalog.
Application Deadlines
- Domestic Students: The final deadline for receipt of complete applications is May 25 for Summer I.
Application Requirements
- Complete Application for Admission: Apply for admission via the Apply Texas Application. An applicant may defer admission to an earlier or later semester. Applications are valid for one year, and one deferral is allowed per application.
- Application Fee: $50 for US citizens, $70 for international students. The fee can be paid during the application process or on campus at the Business Office.
- Requirements:
- Candidate must hold a Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited institution of higher learning.
- Candidate must pass the TExES Pre-Admission Content Test (PACT).
- Establish proof of English Language Proficiency, equivalent to passing English 1301 or 1302, or the Test of English as a Foreign Language. A transcript translation must be done by a certified group acceptable to The Higher Education Coordinating Board.
- Complete the Code of Ethics Education form.
- Candidate must have a face-to-face interview with a faculty member of the content area and with the ACE coordinator.
- TEA docs and Exit Policy.
- Declaration of Certification form.

Out-of-state residents should check if the university is authorized to enroll online students from their state.
