Program Overview


Athletic Training, MS

The Department of Kinesiology & Military Science offers a program leading to the Master of Science degree in Athletic Training. The Athletic Training Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE).


Program Details

The Athletic Training Program provides a challenging, comprehensive, and student-centered learning environment preparing students to excel at the professional level as a productive and engaged athletic trainer.


Application Deadlines

The program has approximately 20 spots annually for students in the MS in Athletic Training Program, with rolling admission. Once spots are filled, the application cycle will close for the year.


Application Requirements

  • Complete Application for Admission:
    • Apply for Admission via ATCAS
  • Application fee:
    • ATCAS charges $99 for the first program students apply to and then $55 for each additional program.
    • ATCAS has a Fee Assistance Program
  • Requirements:
    • Students must submit official transcripts from all institutions attended with a demonstrated 3.0 cumulative GPA.
    • Students may be conditionally admitted to the program with at least a 2.5 overall GPA pending program approval.
    • Documentation of completion of the prerequisite courses.
    • Answer program essay questions.
    • CV/Resume.
    • It is NOT required but it is recommended that students complete at least 50 observation hours under the direction of a Certified Athletic Trainer.
    • Observation Hour Form.

Once students are admitted to the program, they will need to submit the following documentation:


  • Documentation of Health Physical by a Medical Doctor.
  • Proof of Current Vaccination Series. Medical documentation for students allergic to immunizations may be provided.
  • Proof of Current TB Test (within the past month) and/or medical documentation.

Athletic Training has been recognized by the American Medical Association (AMA) as an allied health care profession since 1990. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment opportunities for athletic trainers are expected to grow faster than average: 24% in the next 10 years.

Accreditation Information

The Master of Science in Athletic Training program at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE).


Additional Information

  • The program begins at the beginning of June each year.
  • Applications to the program are only accepted once a year.
  • Part-time enrollment is not an option.
  • Students must earn a cumulative GPA of 3.0 during the two professional years. This GPA reflects all courses included in the professional curriculum. A minimum grade of C is required for all courses in the professional program.
  • In addition to successful completion of all courses required for graduation, students are required to pass a comprehensive written examination. Students will take this examination while enrolled in practicum. All students should have completed pre-requisites prior to enrollment in practicum.
  • Students enrolled in the Athletic Training program will be expected to engage in athletic training clinical experiences and supplemental clinical experiences.
