Professional Education Core:

  • Students must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 in education coursework and grades of B- or better in all courses while enrolled in the professional education core.
  • The core includes three quarters of intensive classes and clinical experiences organized as follows:

Term I:

  • IED 404 Clinical Experience Seminar I (2 credits)
  • ED 411 Clinical Experience I (3 credits)
  • ED 418 Assessment, Planning and Instruction (3 credits)
  • ED 434 Content Pedagogy I (3 credits)
  • ED 446 Environments for Diverse Learners (3 credits)
  • ED 481 Introduction to ESOL and Bilingual Education (3 credits)

Term II:

  • IED 405 Clinical Experience Seminar II (2 credits)
  • ED 412 Clinical Experience II (3 credits)
  • ED 421 Technology Integration (3 credits)
  • ED 436 Content Pedagogy II (3 credits)
  • ED 444 Content Literacy (3 credits)
  • ED 450 Methods for Classroom Management (3 credits)

Term III:

  • ED 429 Professional Development Seminar III (2 credits)
  • ED 498 Clinical Experience III (10 credits)

Other:

  • The program requires a passing score on all required tests.
  • Students may explore their interest in teaching during their freshman and sophomore years by enrolling in ED 200, ED 230, and ED 240.

  • Requirements for admission into the professional education core include:
  • A minimum overall (or last 90 hours) GPA of 2.75
  • A minimum GPA of 3.0 in education coursework
  • For middle and high preparations, a minimum of 3.0 in endorsement area content courses.
  • Only non-ED course requirements may be fulfilled with a grade of S.
