Program Overview


Integrative Medicine Part-Time Remote Fellowship Program with Optional Combined Master's Degree

The Integrative Medicine Part-Time Remote Fellowship Program is a unique two-year program that offers candidates flexibility while gaining access to a comprehensive curriculum and excellent medical faculty. This program is approved by the American Board of Physician Specialties (ABPS) to meet all the requirements of the American Board of Integrative Medicine (ABOIM).


Program Overview

The program is designed for working professionals and utilizes synchronous and asynchronous methods of instruction and communication. The curriculum is based on core knowledge content of Integrative Medicine using ABOIM exam content areas as a foundation.


Admission Criteria

  • The program is open to graduates of an ACGME-accredited residency program, as well as licensed Nurse Practitioners and Physicians Assistants.
  • Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, with program start dates in early January and late August.
  • All applicants must complete the Fellowship Application and submit:
    • Current curriculum vitae (including all activities since medical/graduate school graduation with month/year format)
    • Copy of medical/NP/PA school transcript
    • Copy of USMLE or COMLEX scores (medical applicants only)
    • Copy of ECFMG Certificate, if applicable
    • Three letters of reference
    • Copy of current medical and/or professional license
    • Personal statement describing background, interest in integrative medicine, and career goals

Program Features and Requirements

  • Only physicians (MDs and DOs) will be eligible to apply to sit for the board exam upon completion of the fellowship.
  • Physician applicants must be board-certified in their area of specialty, or plan to board certify during the course of their fellowship training.
  • The fellowship is open to any physician medical specialty and is not limited to any subsets, e.g., primary care.
  • Applicants interested in pursuing the Master's degree as part of the remote fellowship experience must also complete a separate application for the Master's program.
  • Academic credit is not awarded for the fellowship unless fellows are also enrolled in the Master of Science in Integrative Health Sciences program.

Curriculum

The curriculum includes:


  • Didactic Phase: Virtual curriculum utilizes synchronous and asynchronous methods of instruction and communication.
  • Clinical Phase: Fellows must participate in 40 hours of clinical time during the course of their fellowship program.
  • Highlights include:
    • Learning from faculty trained in both conventional and integrative practices
    • Attending monthly live events, including Journal Club, Grand Rounds, and Clinical Conference sessions
    • Participating in the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction program
    • Participating in graduate courses, such as Foundations in Mind-Body Medicine, Foundations in Integrative Nutrition, and Advanced Concepts in Integrative Nutrition

  • Fellowship-Only track: $21,500
  • Combined Master of Science in Integrative Health Sciences + Fellowship: MS Tuition + $10,000 (discounted additional fellowship fee)

About the Program

The Integrative Medicine Part-Time Remote Fellowship Program is one of the nearly 950 fellowships and residencies at Jefferson. The program is a collaboration between Thomas Jefferson University's Department of Integrative Medicine & Nutritional Sciences and The Marcus Institute of Integrative Health. The Marcus Institute includes two full-service clinics for medical consultations, a unique pharmacy-certified micronutrient infusion center, a wellness center specializing in fitness and mindfulness programs, and a state-of-the-art imaging facility.
