Doctor of Pharmacy Program

The Doctor of Pharmacy program at the Jefferson College of Pharmacy is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education. Throughout the curriculum, faculty incorporate active learning, simulated patient-care experiences, and other strategies to facilitate the continued development and application of critical thinking and clinical skills.

Program Overview

• The program is designed to provide students with the opportunity to develop clinical practice skills in one of the most prominent healthcare systems in the country.
• The curriculum prepares graduates to provide patient-centered and population-based care that ensures optimal health outcomes.
• Graduates are prepared to practice in diverse patient care environments and to become valued members of the healthcare team.

Curriculum

• The innovative curriculum provides students with the opportunity to develop clinical practice skills.
• The curriculum is created vertically, such that material learned in earlier years is further developed and built upon in the latter years.
• Successful completion of each semester, with a grade of "C" or better in all required coursework, is necessary for progression to the subsequent semester.
• Students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 in order to remain in good academic standing.

Program Outcomes

• Upon completion of the Doctor of Pharmacy program, graduates will have and/or exhibit the following:
  • The knowledge, understanding, and application of the biomedical sciences, pharmaceutical sciences, social/behavioral/administrative sciences, and clinical sciences.
  • The ability to think critically and problem-solve.
  • Effective communication through both written and verbal means.
  • The highest level of professional, legal, and ethical behavior.
  • The professional acumen to identify and analyze emerging health-related issues.
  • A working knowledge of how legislation, regulations, and related programs affect the practice of pharmacy.

Clinical Affiliations

• The PharmD program has clinical affiliations with a wide range of pharmacy practice settings where student pharmacists participate in experiential education throughout their academic program.
