MS in Biopharmaceutical Process Engineering

The Master of Science in Biopharmaceutical Process Engineering is a 36-credit program delivered at the Jefferson Institute for Bioprocessing (JIB). It is ideal for employment-focused graduates with first degrees in Life Sciences and Engineering.

Program Overview

The program is a transformational 12-month Master's Degree that will be delivered in a hybrid format, with both on-campus and online components. The Jefferson Institute for Bioprocessing (JIB) is a 25,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art facility designed for the training of industry professionals, as well as the education of the next generation of scientists and engineers interested in pursuing rewarding careers in biomanufacturing.

Program Details

  • The program focuses on the development of robust processes to manufacture high-value biologics and advanced therapeutics for patients with debilitating and life-limiting diseases.
  • Training and education in biopharmaceutical processing are exceptionally laboratory-intensive, with students spending less time in traditional classroom settings and more time in JIB's pilot-scale facility fully equipped with the most advanced technologies and processes used by industry to manufacture biopharmaceuticals.
  • For the hybrid option, the fall and spring schedule for courses requiring the completion of on-site hands-on laboratory-related coursework will be available prior to the start of each respective semester.

Industry Sponsored Scholarships

  • The program offers industry-sponsored scholarships provided by the following companies:
    • GenVivo, Inc.
    • Merck & Co.
    • Pall Corporation
  • Recipients are determined based on financial need and/or merit.

STEM Eligibility

  • The MS in Biopharmaceutical Process Engineering program is now STEM eligible, allowing international students on an F-1 student status to apply for an additional two years of work authorization after an initial 12-month period of Post-completion Optional Practical Training (OPT) in the United States if they meet the required criteria.

Program Format

  • The program is available in both on-campus and hybrid (online and on-campus) formats.
  • The hybrid option allows students to complete coursework online, with on-site laboratory-related coursework scheduled in continuous late-semester blocks to avoid the necessity of frequent travel.
