Introduction to the Health Data Science Program

The Health Data Science program is a rapidly evolving field that integrates informatics, machine learning, artificial intelligence (AI), and statistics to enable innovative approaches to analytics and health research. This program prepares learners to master machine learning algorithms, integrate and wrangle large and disparate real-world data sources, build statistical and predictive models, create effective data visualization tools, and communicate statistical and data-driven findings.

Program Overview

The Health Data Science program includes quantitative training in statistics, informatics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. The program is differentiated from other graduate programs as its faculty come from all segments of industry and academia, integrating real-world experience into the classroom environment with a special focus on electronic health record data.

Program Options and Tracks

The Health Data Science program has three degree options: a master's degree, a graduate certificate, and an advanced practice certificate. All coursework is 100% online and uses an accelerated term format specifically designed for working professionals.

  • Master of Science in Health Data Science: The Master of Science in Health Data Science builds upon the foundation concepts presented in the Graduate Certificate and focuses on the advanced application of health data science concepts necessary for the applied practice of health data science in industry and research settings.
    • Management Track: Prepares learners to lead data science initiatives in their organizations, providing competencies in the latest data science methods, including statistics and predictive analytics.
    • Research Track: Prepares learners to conduct research using data scientific methods, either academically or as part of an organization, acquiring competencies in statistics, data wrangling, data visualization, supervised, unsupervised, and deep learning machine learning methods.
  • Graduate Certificate in Health Data Science: Focuses on the foundations of health data science, containing five online courses that can be completed in one year.
  • Advanced Practice Certificate (APC) in Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Health Analytics Leadership: Gives students and healthcare professionals the practical skills and expertise needed to drive the implementation of AI, find new ways to leverage data, and enable better tracking of patient prevention outcomes.
