The Certificate in General Studies allows students to select almost any combination of courses at the university level. Courses may be completed entirely on campus or online, or blended, on a full- or part-time schedule — for a total of 30 credits. The certificate may only be completed once, and students may complete this program as part of a diploma or degree program.

- Some program requirements may be met with credits earned by Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR).
- 15 credits of the 30 required credits may be applied studies, such as fine and performing arts, studio and technology courses.
- Education, business and administrative studies courses are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
- An Open Textbook Pathway to Certificate of General Studies is available, with 30 credits from the following Open Learning distance courses with zero textbook cost:
