Program Description

Nurses make informed judgments every day about the health of patients of all ages in all sorts of settingshospitals, primary care practices, home careyou name it. The UAB School of Nursing provides the training students need to become nurses, including how to be a nurse in home/community agencies, ambulatory care, and a variety of hospital-based practices.


Curriculum and Requirements

To begin, students will need a strong foundation in human anatomy, microbiology, physiology, nutrition, and statistics. The rest of the curriculum will build on that foundation. For instance, students will take leadership courses and nursing skills development courses, as well as classes that cover health care and information technology. Students will also learn about therapeutic communications, pharmacotherapy, complex health conditions, and their future role as a caregiver. Finally, before graduating, students will get real-world experience through clinical work and practicums guided by highly qualified, world-renowned faculty.
