The Secondary Education program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is designed to prepare students to become high school educators.
Program Overview
As a high school teacher, individuals can have a significant influence on students during their formative years. The program at UAB teaches the necessary skills to become a high school educator. Students must first decide which subject they want to teach: science, social studies, math, or English language arts. They will then learn critical skills, competencies, and instructional strategies from nationally renowned faculty. The program also provides hands-on experience through internships and practicums.

About the Program
The Secondary Education program is a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree. Students in this program will learn how to teach and inspire high school students in their chosen subject area. For future math or science teachers, there is also the option to enroll in UABTeach, a four-year program that allows students to earn a STEM degree while also qualifying for certification as a classroom teacher.
