About Program

Program Overview

This online Master's in Engineering Practice (Mechatronics and Robotic Engineering) combines hands-on experience, state-of-the-art coursework, and industry-relevant projects to advance mechatronics knowledge. Students explore advanced topics in control system design, machine vision, data processing, and robotic engineering, preparing them for careers in diverse fields. The program also incorporates artificial intelligence engineering and machine learning, enhancing students' problem-solving and innovation skills.

Program Outline

Degree Overview:

Take your mechatronics engineering knowledge to the next level by exploring exciting topics like control system design, machine vision, and data processing. Gain hands-on experience with motors, gearing, and simulation and modelling while studying state space design, filtering techniques, and digital control principles. Discover the intricacies of computer vision and image processing with this masters in engineering. From modelling controlling drones to navigating underwater robots, to programming the Boston Robotics dog, you'll master obstacle avoidance, path planning, and the language of robot communication. This degree also delves into artificial intelligence engineering and the topic of machine learning. There are some elements of this qualification that need to be completed in person (see more information on residential schools below) however, this engineering masters can largely be completed online.

Outline:

To complete this degree students must complete 12 units. Most courses (similar to ‘subjects’) are valued at 1 unit.

Teaching:

This degree has a mandatory attendance requirement for some of the residential school courses. All students will have the opportunity to come on-campus for residential schools, where you will attend face-to-face lectures and tutorials to gain practical experience, use facilities and specialist equipment, and meet staff and other students.

Careers:

When you graduate with a Master of Engineering Practice (Mechatronics and Robotic Engineering) you will be prepared to make a difference in the world of medical technology, transportation systems, mining resource extraction, power generation and distribution, renewable energy systems, electric vehicle and even spacecraft and satellites. Specific jobs, as defined by the Engineers Australia Mechatronics Field of Practice, may includer robotics engineers, robotics design engineer, research mechatronic engineer or automation engineer.

Other:

Graduates from the Master of Engineering Practice are eligible to be considered for higher research degrees such as the Master of Research or PhD studies. The program is accredited by Engineers Australia and graduates are eligible for Graduate membership at the Professional Engineer level.
