Program Overview
PhD, MPhil, MRes Marketing
The PhD, MPhil, and MRes Marketing programs are designed for students who wish to pursue advanced research in marketing. A PhD will take three years full-time or can be studied part-time, while an MPhil can be completed in one year.

- Services marketing
- Strategic marketing & analytics
These research areas cover all fields of marketing, including consumer behavior, strategic marketing, international marketing, services marketing, sales marketing, and e-marketing.

The Department of Marketing has supervised recent PhD theses in various topics, demonstrating its expertise and commitment to advancing knowledge in the field.
PhD Opportunities
The University welcomes proposals on specific topics, including Culture, Heritage & Arts Marketing, Destination Marketing, and Managing Tourism Resources. These topics can be explored at both critical and operational levels.

Some PhD opportunities are unfunded, while others may be funded through various schemes, such as the John Anderson Research Studentship Scheme (JARSS).
John Anderson Research Studentship Scheme (JARSS)
JARSS doctoral studentships are available annually for excellent students and research projects. There are two main sources of funding: Central University funding and Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council - Doctoral Landscape Award (EPSRC - DLA) funding.

Strathclyde Business School
The University offers an excellent academic environment where students can pursue their research degree. As a postgraduate research student, you are required to:
- Attend the Strathclyde Business School Faculty Research Methodology Programme, achieving a minimum of Certificate level.
- Ensure regular meetings and contact with your supervisors.
Full-time Students
Full-time students will have access to computing/hot-desking, printing, email, and kitchen facilities. They are expected to be in the Department on a regular basis and attend the Department's research seminar series as well as other occasional workshops.
Part-time Students
Part-time students will have hot-desking facilities, giving them regular access to the Department and helping them integrate with other students and staff. They are required to attend the Department for at least 10 days per year, in addition to the Research Methodology Programme.
Fees & Funding
All fees quoted are per academic year unless otherwise stated. Entrants may be subject to a small fee during the writing-up period. Fees may be subject to updates to maintain accuracy. Tuition fees will be notified in your offer letter.
Annual Revision of Fees
Students on programs of study of more than one year should be aware that the majority of fees will increase annually. The University will take a range of factors into account, including UK inflation, changes in delivery costs, and changes in Scottish and/or UK Government funding. Changes in fees will be published on the University website in October each year for the following year of study, and any annual increase will be capped at a maximum of 10% per year.

- Republic of Ireland: If you are an Irish citizen and have been ordinary resident in the Republic of Ireland for the three years prior to the relevant date, and will be coming to Scotland for Educational purposes only, you will meet the criteria of England, Wales & Northern Ireland fee status.

Postgraduate Certificate (PgCert) in Research Methodology for Business & Management
The PgCert is designed to support students by developing their skills as researchers. The certificate can be studied as a blended or fully online program, depending on circumstances.
Apply
To apply for the PhD, MPhil, or MRes Marketing program, you will need to submit:
- A copy of an up-to-date CV
- Academic transcripts for both your degrees, which clearly show the modules studied and the grades gained for each module
- Proof of English language proficiency, less than two years old, if English is not your first language
- Two references, one of which must be academic
- A research proposal, clearly demonstrating the potential contribution both in theory and practice
Entry Requirements
For entry onto the postgraduate research programs, the University normally looks for a first-class or upper second-class UK Honours degree, or overseas equivalent, in a relevant business or social science-related subject. For PhD applications, a Masters degree, or overseas equivalent, is also normally expected.
