Program Overview

The University of Strathclyde offers a comprehensive program in Business Enterprise and Hospitality and Tourism Management. This undergraduate degree is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge required to succeed in the business world, with a focus on entrepreneurship and the hospitality and tourism industry.


Program Structure

The program is structured over four years, with the first year providing a broad-based curriculum that introduces students to a wide range of business disciplines. In the second year, students choose two subjects to specialize in, alongside further Management Development Programme (MDP) modules. The MDP is a central element of the undergraduate program in the Strathclyde Business School, providing students with the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills in key areas of management.

Learning and Teaching

Teaching is over two semesters in blocks of 12 weeks, with classes taught through lectures, tutorials, and seminars alongside team-based projects, online materials, and interactive sessions using personal response systems. External contributors from partnership corporate organisations are involved in teaching and/or assessment of student presentations.


Assessment

The majority of classes involve a final unseen exam, which is normally at the end of the semester. This is normally supplemented by individual and/or group coursework. A range of assessment techniques are used, including business reports, case studies, essays, presentations, individual and group projects, learning journals, and peer assessments.


Entry Requirements

The standard entry requirements for the program are:


  • Highers: AAAA/AAABB (1st sitting), AAAABB (2nd sitting)
  • A Levels: ABB-BBB
  • International Baccalaureate: 36 (no subject below 5 and including English SL5, Maths/Maths Skills SL5)
  • HNC/HND: Relevant HNC/HND, A in Graded Units

Graduates specializing in Business Enterprise develop the skills to set up their own business and the entrepreneurial mindset and business skills required by organizations. Graduates who specialize in Hospitality and Tourism Management have a combination of practical and business skills, and can find jobs in the hotel industry and the service sector.
