Program Overview

The University of Strathclyde offers a BA Joint Honours degree in English and Human Resource Management. This program allows students to explore the exciting and wide-ranging subjects of English and Human Resource Management, developing skills in written and verbal communication, analysis, and discussion of ideas, and broad, creative thinking.

The English and Human Resource Management program at the University of Strathclyde provides students with a unique opportunity to study two complementary subjects. Human Resource Management is about the relationship between employers and employees and the ways in which people are managed in the workplace.


What You'll Study

The program covers a range of topics in English and Human Resource Management, including:


  • English: literary studies, reading novels, plays, short stories, and poetry, including contemporary and older texts, and techniques in creative writing.
  • Human Resource Management: introductory classes, managing people, work psychology, employment relations, and advanced organizational behavior.

Course Structure

The program is a four-year course, with students taking a range of classes in English and Human Resource Management. In the first year, students take core classes in English and Human Resource Management, and in the second year, they take option classes in both subjects. In the third and fourth years, students take a range of elective classes in English and Human Resource Management, and they also have the opportunity to take a work placement class.


Assessment

Assessment for the program is through a mixture of essays, exams, and coursework. In English, most classes are assessed by a mixture of essays or other written work, while in Human Resource Management, the majority of classes are assessed by a final unseen exam in addition to individual and/or group coursework.


Entry Requirements

The standard entry requirements for the program are:


  • Highers: AAAA (first sitting) or AAAAB (second sitting), including English and at least one other social science subject, plus National 5 Maths or Application of Maths at B to C.
  • A Levels: ABB-BBB.
  • International Baccalaureate: 32-30.
  • Irish Leaving Certificate: Two H2 passes and three H3 passes, including English.
  • HNC: Social Sciences, Year 1 entry: A in Graded Unit; Maths National 5 B, or equivalent.

The fees for the program are:


  • Scotland: £1,820.
  • England, Wales, and Northern Ireland: To be confirmed.
  • International: £21,550.

Scholarships
