The MEng Electrical & Mechanical Engineering with International Study program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of both electrical and mechanical engineering principles. This dual-accredited program by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers offers a unique blend of theoretical knowledge and practical skills, preparing graduates for a wide range of career opportunities in the engineering sector.
Program Structure
The program consists of five years of study, with the fourth year spent at a recognized overseas academic partner. Students will complete a combination of compulsory and elective classes, including:
- Year 1: Introduction to engineering mechanics, electronic and electrical principles, and engineering mathematics
- Year 2: Development of key skills for the engineering profession, including team working and oral presentation skills
- Year 3: Specialist engineering skills, including mechanical systems, integrated design, and software engineering
- Year 4: Study abroad at a partner institution, with an approved curriculum equivalent to the home one
- Year 5: Multidisciplinary group project, with a strong industrial influence, and elective classes from a range of advanced electrical and mechanical subjects
Assessment and Teaching
Assessment methods include written assignments, individual and group reports, oral presentations, practical lab work, and end-of-term exams. The program uses a blend of teaching methods, including lectures, small group problem-solving tutorials, practical laboratories, and industrial visits.
Entry Requirements
The standard entry requirements for the program are:
- Highers: AAAAB (Maths A, Physics or Engineering Science)
- Advanced Highers: Maths and Physics recommended
- A Levels: AAB-BBB (Maths, Physics)
- International Baccalaureate: 36-32 (Maths HL5, Physics HL5)
- English language requirements: If English is not the first language, students must meet the University's English language requirements
