Why This Course?

The finance degree is unique in Scotland in terms of the range and depth of issues covered. Subjects include the principles of investment and value, business finance and decision-making, and the analysis of securities such as bonds and shares. Course Content

In Year 1, students study a range of business disciplines across four subject modules, plus three core integrating modules in international business, business knowledge and skills, and academic skills. From Year 2, students take modules in the subjects they choose to specialize in.

  • Management Development Programme 2
  • Finance classes covering investment and financial decision-making, risk and return, and portfolio selection
  • Business Law classes introducing the main areas of legal study, including law-making, court systems, and contract law

Year 3 Modules

  • Management Development Programme 3, focusing on individualized experience in an organizational context
  • Finance classes covering advanced corporate finance, financial markets, and valuation of derivatives
  • Business Law classes allowing students to choose from a wide range of business law subjects and electives

Year 4 Modules

  • Students can specialize in Finance as a Single Honours subject or continue to a Joint Honours degree in Finance and their other principal subject
  • Honours classes cover advanced topics in corporate investment, corporate financing, asset pricing, and more

Learning and Teaching

Teaching is over two semesters in blocks of 12 weeks, with classes taught through lectures, tutorials, and seminars alongside team-based projects, online materials, and interactive sessions.


Assessment

The majority of classes involve a final unseen exam, supplemented by individual and/or group coursework.


Entry Requirements

  • Highers: Standard entry requirements: AAAA/AAABB (1st sitting), AAAABB (2nd sitting)
  • A Levels: ABB-BBB (GCSE English Language 6/B or Literature 6/B)
  • International Baccalaureate: 32-30 (no subject below 5 and including English SL5, Maths/Maths Studies SL5)
  • HNC/HND: Relevant HNC/HND, A in Graded Units

Careers
