Program Overview

Studying a BSc Honours degree in Data Analytics at the University of Strathclyde, students will be learning at an award-winning academic institution. The program focuses on developing expertise in a wide range of topics in mathematics, statistics, and computer science. Students will gain experience in using data analysis software, learn to code using industry-standard programming languages, and have the opportunity to work on real-life problems and analyze data through the university's business and industry links.

Why This Course?

In the modern world, understanding vast arrays of data is one of the key challenges, requiring expertise in subjects such as mathematics, statistics, and computing. Data Analytics is the science of examining raw data using advanced computing technologies, and it is growing to be a fundamental part of modern business and industry. The demand for graduates with skills in data analytics is forecast to rise rapidly, making this program highly relevant for those seeking a career in this field.

What You’ll Study

The program is structured over four years, with each year containing compulsory modules and some years including optional modules. The curriculum covers a broad range of topics, including:

  • Mathematics: calculus, geometry, analysis, probability theory
  • Computer Science: machines, languages & computation, information & information systems, programming foundations, logic & algorithms, user & data modelling
  • Advanced topics: experimental design, risk analysis, survey analysis, dynamic modelling, network analysis, computer programming, software engineering, artificial intelligence, web and mobile applications, information access & mining, the theory of computation

Facilities

Each department has teaching rooms that provide access to modern teaching and computer equipment, conducive to student learning. The undergraduate common room offers a modern and flexible area for individual and group study work and a relaxing social space. Many data analysis software packages are used, including those widely used in industry.

Study Abroad

Students will have the opportunity to spend time studying abroad, normally in the third year of the course. The university has links with European and non-European universities, including the University of Limerick, Republic of Ireland; Johannes Kepler University, Linz, Austria; Technical University of Denmark, Lyngby, Denmark; University of Toronto, Canada; and others.
