Brief Description

The Professional Master of Education program is designed for individuals who wish to pursue a career in teaching. The program focuses on delivering immersive classroom experiences and understanding the tools and classroom experiences needed to be a confident educator. Students will consider what it means to be a great teacher today, with a focus on research skills, using new technology, and delivering the right learning for everyone.

Programme Content

During this program, students will:

• Become more confident and resourceful educators with real-life experience of delivering their ideas in the classroom through placements.
• Consider factors that affect how students learn, from different styles of learning and educational needs to diversity and social justice.
• Learn how to adapt their style to different scenarios and tailor their approach based on independent research.
• Understand how and why education is changing and how new approaches and technology are meeting that challenge.

Key Information

• Complete the program full-time over two years.
• Specialize in either one or two subject areas (please contact the Subject Pathway Leader for more details). Students must have the required credits in their specialist areas at level 8.
• The program features blended delivery, including on-campus, online, and practice placement components.
• Modules are taught during the autumn and spring semesters.
• Students attend campus during the autumn semester of Year 1 and the spring semester of Year 2.
• Complete school placement in the spring semester of Year 1 and the autumn semester of Year 2. The University of Limerick will arrange school placements for students.
• Attend online modules during school placements.
• Graduate with a Level 9 Professional Master of Education.

Entry Requirements

• Applicants should hold a bachelor's degree (NFQ Level 8) with at least a second-class honor, grade 2 (2:2) in a relevant discipline.
• Submit a formal declaration that you have reviewed the requirements of the Teaching Council of Ireland for the purposes of teaching in your chosen subject(s).
• Garda Clearance is required for successful applicants.
• The University will shortlist and interview applicants during March/April of the application year. Interview priority will be given to candidates who meet the full teaching council requirements.

Fees

• EU: 5,800 per annum
• Non-EU: 10,500 per annum
• Year 2 fees are subject to change.
• Annual fees are billed by semester. Once registered, students may be eligible to apply for a monthly payment plan.
