Brief Description

Access to appropriate wheelchair services is essential for promoting mobility, independence, and dignity for users across the globe. Health systems must deliver not only effective but also sustainable solutions that meet individuals' needs now and into the future.


Programme Content

Overview

This 12-week, Level 9 online micro-credential equips students with the knowledge and skills to support evidence-based wheelchair provision and user-centred service delivery. Students will explore assessment frameworks, seating needs, system-level supports, and international best practice in assistive technology.


Learning Outcomes

During this module, students will:


  • Explore sustainable wheelchair and seating provision from a human rights, health, and systems perspective across the life course.
  • Gain skills to understand user needs, evaluate provision processes, and apply appropriate service models in diverse care settings.
  • Learn how to evaluate research, apply sustainability measures, and support improvements in wheelchair provision across health and social care systems.
  • Strengthen their expertise for roles in health and social care or clinical engineering, or support progression to postgraduate study in assistive technology and health equity.

  • Students will be assessed through 1–2 continuous skill-based assignments, with no final exam.

Entry Requirements

Academic Requirements

  • Applicants should hold a bachelor's degree (NFQ Level 8) with at least a second-class honours, grade 2 (2:2) in a relevant discipline.
  • If applicants have a lower result or an unrelated qualification, they may be considered on a case-by-case basis if they can provide evidence of substantial relevant work experience in the field of wheelchair or assistive technology provision.
