Course Overview
The course explores the science of disease and develops the skills to investigate, diagnose, and help treat human illness. Students will gain practical lab experience from the start and have a whole term dedicated to their own research project in their final year.
Course Structure
The course is divided into four stages:
- Foundation year: Students will study compulsory modules, including Foundations of Science 1, Scientific Methods and Data Handling, Foundations of Science 2, and Scientific Methods and Academic Skills Development.
- Stage 1: Students will study compulsory modules, including Bioscience Skills: Introduction to Experimental Techniques and Data Analysis, Molecules of Life, Human Anatomy and Physiology, Bioscience Skills: Advancing Experimental Techniques and Data Analysis, and From Cells to Evolution.
- Stage 2: Students will study compulsory modules, including Molecular Genetics, Bioscience Skills: Developing as an Independent Scientist, Clinical Diagnostics, Drugs and Disease, and Immunology.
- Stage 3: Students will complete a research project and study optional modules, including Frontiers in Virology and Immunology, Cancer Biology and Therapy, Applied Bioinformatics and Genomics, Biology of Ageing, and Science Communication & Public Engagement.
Entry Requirements
- UK: 80 UCAS points, CDD / 80 UCAS points
- International: 80 Tariff points, typically H5, H4, H4 or 11 points from three HL subjects
- English Language Requirements: Good level of English language, equivalent to B2 on CEFR

Accreditation
The course is accredited by the Institute for Biomedical Science (IBMS) and the Royal Society of Biology (RSB). Students graduating from RSB recognised courses are eligible for associate membership and are entitled to two years’ membership at half price.
