Programme Overview
The IQS Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry is a four-year program that provides students with a comprehensive education in chemistry, enabling them to pursue careers in industry, research, and academia. The program features a common core of two years of chemistry and chemical engineering studies, allowing students to later decide their preference.

Objectives and Competences
The Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry at IQS Barcelona allows students to acquire a wide range of skills thanks to our teaching methodologies that feature a substantial hands-on component. Some of the competences students will acquire include:
- Understand and apply knowledge of Chemistry, Biosciences, and Engineering in the practice of Chemical Science.
- Understand and use general knowledge of Technical English, Ethics, and Management in the practice of Chemical Science.
- Understand advanced knowledge of Chemistry and Biosciences in the practice of Chemical Science.
- Conduct experiments to achieve the requirements established therein.
- Use systems, components, or processes to achieve the requirements established in the activities conducted.
- Identify, formulate, and solve basic problems in Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, and Biology and problems in the fields of Chemistry, Biosciences, and Engineering.
- Analyse, integrate, and interpret data and information in the fields of Chemistry and Biosciences.
- Use new techniques and new tools in Chemical Science.
- Design processes and experiments to achieve the requirements established therein.
- Assess risks in the use of chemical and biological substances.

- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing and use English as a foreign language.
- Work on a team within a multidisciplinary environment.
- Assess the impact of Chemistry and Biosciences on the sustainable development of society.

In-Company Internships
As part of the curriculum of the Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, all students conduct internships within research centres or paid internships within companies in the sector equivalent to six credit hours. IQS Career Services gives advice and helps students find and carry out their internships.
Career Opportunities
The professional opportunities for IQS Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry graduates are incredibly varied. Some of the career opportunities include:
- Companies in which chemical and/or biotechnological processes are carried out: pharmaceutical, food, and environmental technologies and chemical, petrochemical, automotive, and textile industries.
- Postgraduate studies: master’s and doctoral degrees.
- Government and teaching.
- R&D&i teams to develop and apply new chemical and/or biotechnological products, processes, or technologies to use raw materials and processes for the treatment and reuse of industrial waste.
Admissions Process
To apply for admission to the Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, students must submit various documents, including:
- Valid ID/Passport
- Passport-style photograph in colour with a white background in jpg format (176×220 pixels).
- Grades from the last two academic years prior to accessing university.
- Credential granting access to the Spanish university system issued by UNEDasiss or favourable decision approving previous studies prior to accessing university.

The curriculum of the Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry includes:
- First year: Mathematics, Computer Science and Numerical Calculation, General Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Fundamentals of the Chemical and Biological Laboratory, Industrial Economics and Organization.
- Second year: Inorganic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Statistics, Basic Engineering Operations I, Chemistry and Engineering Laboratory I, Chemistry and Engineering Laboratory II, Graphic Expression.
