Program Overview

Postgraduate Degree in Environmental Ethics

Program Presentation

The Postgraduate Degree in Environmental Ethics is a Ramón Llull University (URL) specific degree that we teach in Barcelona and, in teaching professionals, addresses one of the great challenges of the 21st century: sustainability.

Applied ethics is emerging as an interprofessional discipline that offers tools to focus on the environment from reflection and provides answers to the ethical challenges posed by professional activity. Due to their work, professionals who must manage environmental problems often lack the knowledge and skills necessary to address the related ethical aspects.

The Postgraduate Degree in Environmental Ethics is designed to reinforce the professional’s ethical perspective, enable them to detect and address the ethical problems associated with environmental management, and increase their job satisfaction.

The programme’s design makes knowledge acquisition inseparable from its application to specific issues, situations, and problems in the professional fields of the participants.

Two institutions strongly committed to society, the Institut Químic de Sarrià (IQS) and the Institut Borja de Bioética (IBB), have come together to offer this postgraduate degree to train the best professionals in tackling crucial issues that not only have an impact on each professional and their field of work, but also involve the very future of humanity and the planet.

  • IBB is a pioneer in applied ethics not only in Catalonia and Spain but also with an impact throughout Europe.
  • IQS brings all its international experience in areas related to engineering, scientific development, the environment, and sustainability from a perspective committed to the world and society.

More Information

Description

We seek to attract two types of participants:

  • Young people who want to start their professional career with solid knowledge and skills in addressing the environmental ethics issues that will permeate their professional performance and that they will inevitably encounter.
  • Professionals with a certain track record and an interest in enhancing ethical thinking in the workplace, as well as improving knowledge and skills in detecting and addressing associated ethical issues.

It’s offered in a blended method to make it more accessible because we know schedules are often challenging.

The programme is taught in a blended method, combining face-to-face synchronous sessions and asynchronous sessions on an online platform.

Asynchronous work is done through the virtual campus and includes readings and work with other materials: conducting exercises, participation in discussion forums, virtual campus work, reflection, and personal research.

The synchronous work takes place at the sessions and/or via streaming. In these sessions, students will have the opportunity to resolve doubts, analyse cases, and participate in debates to deepen, reflect on, and give concrete answers to the issues studied and the problems detected in their professional practice.

The programme can also be done in a 100% online method where the learning methodology pivots around the virtual campus and in which students have access to different teaching materials (texts or audiovisual materials), including recommended and complementary literature. Moreover, the campus provides meeting spaces for students and professors to carry out and discuss hands-on exercises, participate in debates through the forums, and provide regular tutoring for each student.

Apply to study this Ramon Llull University (URL) specific degree.

In accordance with Spanish Royal Decree 822/2021, published on 28 September 2021, which regulates the titles of university degrees in Article 37, section 9, Ramon Llull University grants the degree of University Expert in Environmental Ethics to students who, holding a required university degree, study and pass the complete programme and carry out and defend their project. The processing fees (approx. €300) for said degree are not included in the tuition fee and usually take between 2-3 years from the application to its issuance by the Rector of the University.

Additionally, IQS grants the Certificate of Completion for the Postgraduate Degree in Environmental Ethics to students who complete and pass the full programme. Processing fees are included in the tuition fee and it is issued on the last day of the programme.
