Overview

The University Certificate in Lift and Escalator Technology provides an introduction for those new to the lift and escalator industry, and a useful refresher for those who have been within the industry for some while. Covering fundamental concepts of lift technology, electrical and electronic, and mechanical engineering in the context of the industry, the course is delivered in a modular format and taught online so that you can study the learning materials, attend online tutorial sessions, and complete your assessments remotely – albeit within a fixed schedule of dates and deadlines to meet. It allows seamless progression to the HNC or HND in Lift and Escalator Technology.

Highlights

  • Access to expert tutorial support and University of Northampton services and facilities.
  • Online learning to allow you to study remotely.
  • Unique, widely recognised industry-relevant programme.

Entry Requirements

As a course designed for people who are working in the lift industry, we do not expect the majority of applicants to have any formal qualifications but to have relevant work experience. Those without relevant work experience may enter the course with one A-level qualification as well as GCSE Mathematics at grade C/4 or above.

Course Content

The University Certificate in Lift & Escalator Technology comprises three modules and is designed to introduce the fundamental knowledge required within the industry in the areas of lift technology and related electrical/electronic engineering, and mechanical engineering.

All Lift Technology programmes are modular. The Certificate consists of modules wholly delivered and assessed by The University of Northampton and supported by The Lift & Escalator Industry Association (LEIA).

The programme is delivered through distance learning (online) and so no attendance is required. It is therefore specifically designed for those working within the industry while studying at the same time.

Coursework is used to assess learning and offers the opportunity for you to develop and demonstrate valuable understanding of fundamental engineering principles and relevant Codes and Standards, and to apply problem-solving skills. Assignments are often related to real-life situations and are therefore an important learning activity.

The assessment profile for each module has been chosen to ensure that the assessment pattern is the most efficient method of ensuring that you have achieved the learning outcomes of the programme.
