Design for Theatre and Live Performance BA (Hons)
Program Overview
This undergraduate course explores all aspects of contemporary design practice for theatre and live performance, with a focus on design and construction for stage and screen, along with digital technologies and design, lighting design and audio visuals, site-specific design, puppetry, heritage installation, and design for community and education. The course is facilitated by NTU's highly skilled team of staff and technicians who have years of professional and academic knowledge to share with students throughout the three to four years of study. Students will have the opportunity to complete a work experience placement of up to a year in length, with a potential to gain an additional Diploma or Certificate in Professional Practice, depending on the duration of their placement.

- The program includes a year-long Work Based Learning module that can be undertaken in the third year, consisting of 60 credits.
- Students attend timetabled Placement Preparation sessions in the second year, providing information on sourcing a placement, enhancing CVs, cover letters, and interview preparation.
- A Student Futures Placement Coordinator is available to support students with their placement applications and approving placements.
- International study is available, with agreements with partner institutions in the EU and further afield.
- The program includes a Professional Internship Module in Year 3 (one trimester) for students not undertaking the year-long placement, giving them the opportunity to complete a project for an external client.

- The program includes a focus on User Experience, speculative design, professional skills through an internship, and portfolio development.
