About Program

Program Overview

This one-year diploma program is designed to bridge the gap between undergraduate and professional string performance careers. It emphasizes string quartet playing, performance practices, and private lessons.

Program Outline

Degree Overview:

This diploma program is designed for students who are not currently employed as professional musicians in an orchestra. It aims to help them gain a diploma in string performance within one year, bridging the gap between student and professional. The program focuses on the string quartet, performance practices, repertoire, and private lessons.

Teaching:

The program includes private lessons. Students will have the opportunity to play with the Regina Symphony Orchestra (RSO) and participate in a string quartet across Saskatchewan.

Careers:

The program prepares students for a career as a professional musician in an orchestra. It is specifically designed for students transitioning from an undergraduate degree to graduate school or into the profession.

Other:

This program is unique in the province. There are similar residency-based programs in Canada (Laurentian and University of Victoria), but these programs do not include lessons. This program is unique in that it targets students transitioning from an undergraduate degree to graduate school or into the profession. Students will have the opportunity to take a leading role in the University of Regina Orchestra and come in contact with international directors.
