Degree Overview:
The Bachelor of Design program at the University of Regina is a two-year post-diploma degree program, also known as a 2+2 program. It is designed for students who have already completed a diploma in design at an approved Canadian institution, or a Diploma in Creative Technologies or a Diploma in Computer Science at the University of Regina. The program aims to equip students with the skills to address the needs of diverse audiences through design thinking. It focuses on developing students as designers, artists, scientists, developers, theorists, entrepreneurs, and practice-based scholars. The program encourages collaboration, experimentation, play, and thinking outside the box. The program offers a variety of courses, including:
- CTCH 204 - Introduction to Creative Coding: This course introduces core creative coding methods and strategies for computational art.
- CTCH 213 - Branding, Advertising and Design: This course explores design practices for branding and advertising in a professional environment. Students gain practical and theoretical knowledge to create and understand the visual language underpinning brand identities and advertising campaigns.
- CTCH 215 - Visual Identity Design: This course focuses on designing visual communication for businesses and non-profit organizations. Students design and publish documents for internal and external publics, connecting with their audience through print and web media products.
- CTCH 216 - 3D Animation: Art, Social Media: This online course addresses digital art, design, DE animation, and modeling using real-time interactive software.
- CTCH 306 - Digital Storytelling and Interactive Media: This course explores the social, political, cultural, economic, and intersectionality of interactive media and digital storytelling. Students engage with audio and online interactive and immersive storytelling.
- CTCH 312 - Introduction to Computer Game and Virtual Reality Design: This course introduces computer game design using Unity and other industry-standard software. It covers concept, pre-production, production, and post-production, including storyboarding and distribution.
- CTCH 314 - 3D Animation Design: Story, Character, and Motion: This course focuses on advanced studies in 3D modeling/animation for Industry and Entertainment.
- CTCH 301 - Play: This hands-on studio course critically investigates participation, interaction, and play within new media art practice. Students build projects in interactive installation or performance, data translation, and interactive games.
- CTCH 313 - Augmented Reality: Critical Theory, Art, and Activism: This course examines how artists and activists are creating AR art to further social change.
- CTCH 302 - Augmentation: This course explores "wearables" technologies and techniques in art practice.

To enter the Bachelor of Design program, you must hold one of the following:
- Diploma of Graphic Communications from Saskatchewan Polytechnic
- Diploma of Interactive Design and Technology from Saskatchewan Polytechnic
- Diploma of Engineering Design and Drafting Technology from Saskatchewan Polytechnic
- Diploma in Creative Technologies at the U of R
- Diploma in Computer Science at the U of R
- Diploma in Design at an approved Canadian institution Credentials from elsewhere in Canada will be approved on a case-by-case basis.
