Program Overview


Law LLM Programme

The Law LLM programme is offered by the School of Law at University College Cork. This programme has been in place since 1992 and remains a popular choice for postgraduate study.


Course Outline

The LLM programme allows students to choose from a wide range of modules across various areas of law. Students can either focus on one area, such as business or international law, or choose from a broad variety of legal subjects. The programme also provides students with the opportunity to pursue a dissertation in their area of interest under the supervision of experienced lecturers.


Postgraduate Diploma in Law

Applicants for the LLM Degree also have the option of registering for a Postgraduate Diploma in Law. Students take 60 credits of taught masters' modules from those on offer for the LLM. The Postgraduate Diploma can be completed over 9 months full-time or 18 months part-time.

Course Practicalities

LLM classes are in seminar format, which is suitable for postgraduate level. Students receive advance reading lists and/or materials for each seminar. Seminars take place in 2-hour blocks between 9:00am and 6:00pm, Monday to Friday.


Assessment

Students are examined by continuous assessment throughout the year, and the dissertation must be submitted in September. Individual module assessments can be viewed in the Book of Modules.

Requirements

  • (a) Hold a BCL (Hons) Degree from the National University of Ireland with at least a Second Class Honours Grade I;
  • (b) Have such other relevant third-level educational qualifications and/or professional experience as, in the School of Law's opinion, qualify the candidate under Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) to undertake the LLM Degree.

Fees and Costs

The EU fee for this course is LLM - Full-time €9,200 Part-time €5,600; PG Dip - Full-time €5,000 Part-time €2,500. The Non-EU fee for this course is LLM - €19,700; PG Dip - €10,900.
