Outline

Participants will be supported to reflect on research supervision through the lens of inclusion; the aim being to equip supervisors with the knowledge and skills necessary to foster inclusive supervisor-supervisee relationships.

On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:


  1. Demonstrate a knowledge of the role of policy and procedure in shaping research supervision.
  2. Demonstrate a critical awareness of research on the supervisor-supervisee relationship; apply insight gained from state-of-the-art research to reflect on the best tools to use to promote inclusive supervision.
  3. Appraise the social norms and relationships embedded within the supervisor-supervisee relationship and use insights drawn from interdisciplinary research to address such issues as the effects of hierarchical power differentials and poor wellbeing among supervisees and supervisors.
  4. Practice the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) through scaffolded worksheet which could provide the basis for a SoTL artifact on the topic of supervision.

Requirements

  1. Academic Requirements: Applicants must have a primary honours degree (NFQ, Level 8) and be teaching in the third level education sector.
  2. Applicants must be employed in a Higher Education institution.
  3. A requirement will be access to high-speed broadband in order to access the institutional VLE Canvas.
