Program Outline

Degree Overview:

This Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in Digital Education Certificate explores the ways that digital education can enhance learning, teaching, research, training, and other professional practices. It introduces foundational theories and methodologies in Digital Education, along with the evidence and research base informing those approaches. Participants will assess their existing skills and practice in light of national, international, and disciplinary frameworks. They will then design (or redesign) learning activities, assessments, or feedback plans using digital education approaches. The program facilitates learning and evaluation of a variety of digital education tools and approaches with a view to integrating them as appropriate to the participant's own discipline and pedagogical approach. Through practical workshops, reflections, discussions, and assessments, CPD participants will gain foundational knowledge in digital education as well as the confidence to respond to unexpected challenges. They will be able to reflect on the ways that digital education can support student learning and will be able to articulate their own approach to digital education and the rationale for its inclusion in their own teaching.

Outline:

The program consists of one module:

  • TL6200 Introduction to Digital Education (10 credits): This module covers key ideas and approaches in Digital Education such as learning design, engagement, collaboration, assessment and feedback, analytics, etc.
  • It is broken up into four thematic sections: theoretical foundations, design, delivery, and evaluation.

Assessment:

The assessment method for the program is a Digital Education Portfolio. Participants are required to put theory and ideas into practice and reflect on their learning in a semi-structured learning journal on a weekly basis. These entries and the materials, plans, activities, etc. developed each week constitute the core of a Digital Education Portfolio to be submitted at the end of the course.
