Module Content
Anatomy, physiology and pathology related to equilibrium and the principles of management and rehabilitation for patients affected by balance problems in the adult population.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
- Describe and critically analyse theories of equilibrium.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the different systems involved in maintenance of balance including the vestibular system, the central nervous system and the peripheral musculo-skeletal system.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the different protocols used for assessment of balance with special reference to assessment of the vestibular system.
- Integrate knowledge about the pathology affecting the peripheral and the central balance structure.
