Program Overview
This 10-credit module offers advanced knowledge in dementia care, covering topics such as capacity assessment, advanced care planning, and ethical issues. The course includes 40 hours of lectures, group discussions, and workshops, as well as 160 hours of self-directed learning. Assessment consists of a 3,000-word essay and an oral presentation.

Assessment:
- Total Marks: 200
- Continuous Assessment: 200 marks (1 x 3,000 Word Essay - 150 marks; oral presentation - 50 marks).

- A ten-credit module equates to 200-250 hours of learning, including approximately 40-50 hours of structured contact time.

- This module can be used for CPD module credit towards the Postgraduate Certificate in Dementia or the MSc in Dementia.
- Acceptance of a candidate onto the Postgraduate Certificate in Dementia or the MSc in Dementia is subject to Garda Vetting.
- Students, or applicants in receipt of an offer, taking certain modules will be subject to Garda Vetting as relevant. Students will be prohibited from engaging in a relevant work placement unless the vetting process has been cleared.

Entry Requirements:
- **A Primary Degree in a relevant health care discipline* or an equivalent academic qualification and professional experience to be approved by the programme team.
- Relevant health care disciplines include but are not limited to medicine, nursing, pharmacy, occupational therapy, speech and hearing science, audiology, physiotherapy, psychology, and social studies.
- **Ideally candidates should have at least one year's practical experience in their area of qualification post-registration.
- **Applicants who do not meet the normal academic or experience requirements may also be considered following a review of their individual qualifications and experience by the Programme Team.
