Arts (International) Course Overview
The Arts (International) course is a four-year BA honours degree that includes a year abroad at one of the partner institutions in Europe, the United States, Canada, South America, or Asia. This course is open to language and non-language students, providing an opportunity to enhance learning experience and increase cultural awareness by living and studying in another country.
Course Outline
- The course includes a year abroad, which can be spent in a country where the language of study is spoken, allowing students to demonstrate increased linguistic ability to prospective employers.
- Students select four subjects in Year 1 from a range of groups, with no more than one subject from each group.
- In Year 2, students take 60 credits in total, including a compulsory 5-credit core module, with the remainder of credits taken in two subjects continued from Year 1.
- In Year 3, students spend a full academic year abroad as a registered full-time student at a partner university, taking part in all lectures, coursework, and assignments.
- In Year 4, students take 60 credits spread between the two subjects continued from Year 2.
Course Practicalities
- Expected lecture hours are scheduled Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, with each student's timetable differing depending on the subjects selected.
- Field trips are required for Archaeology and Geography.
- Study abroad costs, such as flights, accommodation, and transport, are covered by the students, with Erasmus grants available for students studying in Europe.

Requirements
- Leaving Certificate Entry Requirements: At least six subjects must be presented, with minimum grade H5 in two subjects and minimum grade O6/H7 in four other subjects.
- English and Irish are requirements for all programmes unless the applicant is exempt from Irish.
- EU/EFTA/UK applicants must review equivalent grades and prove their level of English.
- Mature students must be 23 years of age on or before 1 January of the application year and apply online via the CAO by 1 February.
- Non-EU applicants must have educational qualifications of a standard equivalent to the Irish Leaving Certificate and satisfy the university of their competency in the English language.

- The State will pay the tuition fees for EU students who are eligible under the Free Fees Scheme.
- The annual student contribution and capitation fees are payable by the student.
