Program Overview

Ceramics: Studio Art, B.F.A.

McCausland College of Arts and Sciences

Get hands-on experience as a creator in our ceramic arts program, an exciting concentration for studio art majors. You will build skills as an artist as well as explore innovative ideas.

The creation of ceramics is both a functional arts practice as well as an experimental form. Our program offers opportunities to succeed through our very small class sizes ― only 12 students per section on average ― and hands-on mentorship that ensures one-on-one guidance for students.

Program Highlights

  • Massive Studio: Produce ceramic art works in our studio that features many electric and gas powered kilns.
  • Wheel Throwing Area: Learn alongside your professor in our separate wheel throwing area that features twelve wheels.
  • Student Conferences: Participate in annual conferences sponsored by the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts.

What You’ll Study

Our foundational course is very popular with studio art majors as well as non-majors. All BFA students also prepare a thesis exhibition in their senior year. Many of our students go on to pursue an MFA in ceramics in graduate school.
