The Health and Social Care International Foundation Pathway: Certificate of Higher Education is a program designed to prepare students for a health and social care degree. This program focuses on developing core academic and professional skills, as well as English language skills.

  • 5 GCSE/GCSE passes at grade C/4 or an international equivalent

English: London as Global City

This module develops core English language skills (speaking, listening, reading, and writing) to the level required for undergraduate study. It includes study visits across London, introduction to key academic skills and concepts, and application of these skills to broad academic fields and the chosen subject pathway.

Data Analysis and Research Skills

This module focuses on developing research, numeracy, and information technology skills. Students investigate primary and secondary research, conduct their own research project, and demonstrate findings through data analysis. It also covers awareness of equality, diversion, and inclusion in the UK.

Foundations of Health and Social Care

This module introduces the essential principles and structures of health and social care systems. It explores the dynamic relationship between health, wellbeing, and social care, and examines how these concepts are shaped by social, economic, and political influences.

Personal and Professional Development

This module equips students with foundational knowledge, skills, and attitudes for personal and professional growth in health and social care settings. It covers professionalism, ethical practice, teamwork, effective communication, self-awareness, and resilience in professional roles.

Teaching and Learning

Teaching methods include lectures, seminars, workshops, discussion groups, group-directed tasks, and presentations. Students are encouraged to think creatively and engage in active learning. Additional online support is provided, including access to recordings, resources, and signposting through Moodle.

Assessment and Degree Pathways

Assessments prepare students for life beyond university, enhancing understanding, exploring ideas in depth, and expressing creativity. The program prepares students for careers from day one, with support from the careers team. Students can progress onto the first year of a nursing undergraduate course, including Adult Nursing, Mental Health Nursing, Adult and Mental Health Nursing, and Children's Nursing.
