Overview of the Doctor of Information Technology Program
The Doctor of Information Technology is an intensive three-year professional degree consisting of master-level units, research, and a research dissertation. The program is designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to establish, maintain, and develop information systems, or address organizational concerns with network performance and security in a wide variety of industry sectors.
Program Structure
The program consists of 72 credit points, with 51 credit points of required units and 21 credit points of specified electives. The required units include:
- ICT615: Information Technology Research Methods
- ICT702: Doctor of Information Technology Thesis (12 credit points, taken over four semesters)

Entry Requirements
To be eligible for admission as a candidate for a Doctor of Information Technology, an applicant must have:
- A Bachelor Degree with at least a 2A Honours normally in the same discipline (AQF level 8)
- A Masters Degree normally in the same discipline (AQF level 9) and satisfy the Dean of Graduate Studies with evidence of substantive and significant scholarly or professional attainments
- A Bachelor Degree normally in the same discipline (AQF level 7) and satisfy the Dean with evidence of substantive and significant scholarly or professional attainments including satisfactory research preparation equivalent of AQF level 8 or 9
English Requirements
You must meet a minimum standard in English to study at Murdoch, which for most courses can be demonstrated by providing evidence that you have completed Year 11 and 12 in Australia at any level if you are a domestic student, or through either English proficiency tests, university preparation courses, English language courses, previous tertiary study, or vocational education.
Fees and Scholarships
The estimated, indicative fee covers tuition fees only, and certain additional fees and charges may apply, depending on the course and units you choose. The first-year indicative fee is based on a typical full-time enrolment at Murdoch University of 24 credit points. For domestic students, including Australian citizens, permanent residents, and New Zealand citizens, the indicative fee is based on the applicable Commonwealth Supported fee. Indicative fees for international students are based on applicable full fee-paying rates.
