Program Overview
This four-year Modern Languages and History program at the University of Leeds allows students to study history with one of eight modern languages. Students will study a range of historical periods and explore the history, culture, and society of their chosen language. The program also includes a mandatory year abroad, where students can further enhance their linguistic skills and cultural understanding. Graduates will have the language and professional skills to prepare them for an international career in a wide range of sectors.

Entry Requirements:
- A-level: AAB. Where a post-A level language route is taken, a B grade in the relevant language is required. Where Chinese is taken, a GCSE in any modern language is required.
- Alternative qualifications:
- Access to HE Diploma: Pass diploma with 60 credits overall, including at least 45 credits at level 3, of which 30 credits must be at Distinction and 15 credits at Merit or higher. An interview and a piece of written work may also be required. This course has additional subject specific requirements.
- BTEC: We will consider the level 3 QCF BTEC at Subsidiary Diploma level and above in combination with other qualifications.
- Cambridge Pre-U: D3, M1, M2. Where a post-A level language route is taken, M2 in the relevant language is required. Where Chinese or Japanese is taken, a GCSE in any modern language is required.
- International Baccalaureate: 35 points overall with 16 at Higher Level. Where a post-A level language route is taken, 5 points at Higher Level in the relevant language is required. Where Chinese or Japanese is taken, a GCSE in any modern language is required.
- Irish Leaving Certificate (higher Level): H2, H2, H2, H2, H3, H3. Where a post-A level language route is taken, H3 in the relevant language is required. Where Chinese or Japanese is taken, a GCSE in any modern language is required.
- Scottish Highers / Advanced Highers: AB in Advanced Highers and AABBB in Highers - OR A in Advanced Higher and AABBB in Highers. Where a post-A level language route is taken, a B grade in Advanced Higher in the relevant language is required. Where Chinese or Japanese is taken, a GCSE in any modern language is required.
- Other Qualifications: European Baccalaureate: 80%. Where a post-A level language route is taken, 8.0 in the relevant language is required. Where Chinese or Japanese is taken, a GCSE in any modern language is required.

- Extended project and access to Leeds offer: BBC at A Level and A in a relevant EPQ and pass Access to Leeds This gives you the opportunity to study on campus, be taught by University of Leeds academics and progress onto a wide range of Leeds undergraduate courses.
Language Proficiency Requirements:
- IELTS: 7.0 overall, with no less than 7.0 in any component.
