This pre-sessional course is designed to improve academic English language skills to the level needed to study a Masters degree in Business Management and Enterprise. It aims to help students adapt to life in the UK and at the University of Leeds.
Objectives:
- Improve academic English language skills relevant to business management and enterprise.
- Experience and adapt to study in the UK ahead of a Masters degree.
- Become familiar with University facilities such as libraries, study spaces, and learning platforms.
- Settle into Leeds before a Masters degree begins.
- Meet other students and build a community of peers.
- Learn how to use academic reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills in the context of business management and enterprise.

Content:
- The curriculum is developed in collaboration with Leeds University Business School and is informed by research in English language teaching.
- The first four weeks focus on improving academic English language ability for postgraduate study in the field of business.
- The final six weeks focus on the skills needed for the subject area, studying with students progressing to business management and enterprise degrees.
- Students will have the chance to listen to introductory academic lectures, exploring different themes over six weeks.
- They will work on understanding this content and the language used, along with core texts, through a series of language classes and seminars.

- The course is delivered on campus and lasts for 10 weeks full-time.
Course Schedule:
- Classes normally take place between 9am and 5pm from Monday to Friday.
- Teaching will take place on the University of Leeds campus.

- The Language Centre provides a weekly programme of optional social activities during the course. Some are free, and some have a cost, normally no more than £30.
- Accommodation is not included in the tuition fee.
- The course is accredited by BALEAP.
- Students have access to the Language Zone, a study and resource centre for independent language learning.
- Students can take part in workshops, language groups, and language advice drop-ins.
- The course is taught by The Language Centre and Leeds University Business School.
