Course Overview
This Engineering Technology Management programme was created to provide learners with an essential combination of engineering and management abilities that are critical skill sets required in Industry.
Graduates will be crucial in designing, controlling and managing challenging projects and tasks such as innovative products, developing sustainable global systems, efficient processes, and developing entrepreneurial skills such as creating new business models to support high-value manufacturing settings. Engineering Technology Management graduates will develop the technical expertise of engineers combined with a comprehension of the business and industrial environment and the capacity to develop creative solutions.
This program was created in response to a market need for professional engineers who are also proficient in entrepreneurship and management.
Employers are in high demand for Engineering Technology Management graduates for various positions across multiple Industries such as medical, pharmaceutical, aeronautical, automation, design, Agri and food etc.
Entry Requirements
Leaving Certificate
A minimum of 5 O6/H7 grades in Leaving Certificate subjects, including Mathematics and English or Irish.
Mature Applicants
Candidates applying as mature applicants may be required to attend an interview and may be requested to take an aptitude test to prove their suitability for a place on this programme.
International Applicants
International applicants should apply directly to the International Office at TUS, allowing plenty of time for completing the visa process. Applications for September start should be made by 1st June at the latest to ensure visas are processed in time. You should familiarise yourself with visa processing times for your country of origin to ensure you make a timely application.

It covers company structures in industry, basic principles of operations management, product and process design, manufacturing processes, and the fundamentals of engineering operations management. It also introduces Innovation and Entrepreneurship, a recurring theme throughout the program.
- Mechanical CAD and Design (Credits: 10): This module provides a comprehensive introduction to the standards used in the preparation of Engineering drawings. Students will use 2D and 3D CAD software to create a portfolio of their work. It covers material selection, manufacturing process suitability within specific industries, production logistics, and materials handling. Learners will develop skills in applying these software tools to engineering applications. It builds upon the knowledge gained in Semester 1.
- Mechanical CAD and Design (Credits: 10): This module continues to provide students with practical experience in using 2D and 3D CAD software to create engineering drawings. It builds upon the knowledge gained in Semester 1. It covers regulatory affairs, classification, regulatory structure, and submission pathways for medical devices, pharmaceuticals, biopharmaceuticals, and food manufacturing.

- Mech Eng Maths & Programming (Credits: 10): This module strengthens knowledge of mathematical fundamentals and develops programming, debugging, and engineering computation skills using Visual Basic in Excel.
- Product Innovation & Process Design 1 (Credits: 5): This module introduces the tools and techniques required for new product development and for optimally designing a product and a process. It also introduces the principles and tools of Design thinking for Product and Process Innovation.
- Fluid & Mechanics (Credits: 10): This module strengthens knowledge of engineering science fundamentals and applies them to solving complex practical problems.

Year 3
Semester 1
- Work Placement (Credits: 30): This module is a semester-long work placement in an engineering organization. Learners apply their practical skills and theoretical knowledge gained in previous stages of the program.
Semester 2
- Applied Product and Process Design (Credits: 10): This module allows learners to apply their knowledge to a real-world, industry-based design problem. It provides opportunities for formal presentation and report writing to present project work.
