Programme Overview

This practical and industry-informed programme is designed to equip learners with the knowledge, skills and competencies needed for roles in office administration, bookkeeping, and payroll. It is suited to those currently working in or aspiring to roles in these areas. The programme is also open to those looking to reskill or return to work, provided they meet the entry requirements.

Entry Requirements

  • Mature applicants (i.e., over 23 years)
  • Leaving Certificate Grade O6 at ordinary level in five subjects in the Leaving Certificate. Two of these subjects must be Mathematics and a language (English or Irish)
  • QQI Level 5 – Full award with a minimum of eight modules

  • TWO Evenings per week TBD

Induction

Induction for the September 2025 programmes takes place on Saturday 6 September 2025 from 9.00am to 1.00pm. In advance, you will be required to review Pre-Induction reading material, available to students before induction. During Induction, you will be given the opportunity to:


  • Meet your programme lecturers, programme co-ordinator and students
  • Overview of the programme handbook, programme’s modules, assessments and delivery timetable
  • Introduction to TUS learning systems including MS Office, Zoom, Moodle etc
  • Outline of the learning supports available to you during the programme

Progression

Graduates of the Certificate in Financial Accounting and Payroll will have developed a strong foundation in essential accounting principles and payroll practices, equipping them with skills directly relevant to roles in finance, payroll administration, and bookkeeping. Upon successful completion of this 60-credit certificate, students may progress to Year Two of the Higher Certificate in Business (Level 6). This progression pathway enables learners to continue building their expertise in core business disciplines, enhancing their career opportunities in finance, administration, and business support roles, or preparing for further study at degree level.

Program Outline


Degree Overview:

This is a Level 6 Certificate in Financial Accounting & Payroll (60 ECTS) offered online through the Flexible & Professional Learning department at TUS. It is a Springboard+ funded program, meaning it is fully funded for eligible applicants. It is designed for individuals already working in these areas or aspiring to do so. The program emphasizes the latest advancements in bookkeeping, payroll administration, and legislative changes, highlighting the function's contribution to business efficiency and effectiveness.


Objectives:

Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will have:

  • Developed a detailed knowledge of the theory, concepts, and methods employed in administrative, bookkeeping, and payroll administration.
  • Developed a keen understanding of the main principles of bookkeeping and accounting.
  • The ability to carry out a broad range of bookkeeping and accounting procedures.
  • Acquired the important knowledge and skills required to use both manual and computerized payroll systems.

Semester 2:

  • Delivery: Tuesday & Thursday 6.30pm – 9.30 pm (online) Plus selected Saturdays per 9am – 1pm (online).
