Mechanical Automation Maintenance Fitter Apprenticeship
Program Overview
This four-year apprenticeship program leads to a Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Mechanical Automation and Maintenance Fitting, qualifying you for a career as a fitter in various industries. Upon completion, you can work as a fitter or pursue advanced roles such as engineer, manager, or business owner. As a fitter, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing machinery, as well as fabricating parts using machine tools.

Degree Overview:
On completion of this four-year apprenticeship, you will become a fully qualified mechanical automation and maintenance fitter, with a QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate Craft – Mechanical Automation and Maintenance Fitting. You may then choose to work as a mechanical automation and maintenance fitter in industries such as engineering, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, quarries, mines, food processing, local authorities, petrochemicals and the armed forces. Many apprentices use their qualification as a platform to launch careers such as engineers, managers, owners of businesses and instructors amongst others.

Other:
Working as a mechanical automation and maintenance fitter, your job will include plant and machinery installation; maintenance and repairs; replacement of broken or working parts; adjustment; servicing and checking components; and equipment component replacement. It is also a fitter’s job to fabricate parts using machine tools.
Apprenticeship employers are formally approved by SOLAS in advance of employing apprentices. Apprentices get a formal contract of employment as part of their apprenticeship.
