CPD Return to Practice Nursing draft
Program Overview
The Return to Practice Nursing CPD course enables qualified nurses and nursing associates who have been out of practice or need to revalidate to safely and effectively return to the NMC register. Delivered through a combination of theory and supervised clinical practice, the flexible program tailors to individual needs and culminates in assessment against updated NMC standards.
Program Outline
It is also suitable for nurses currently on the NMC register who do not meet the re-validation criteria. The fees are currently paid by Health Education England.
Outline:
The program combines theory and practice, with a focus on integrating these elements throughout the course. Service users, carers, clinical staff, and RTPN participants have been involved in developing the program design. The theoretical component is delivered at the University, and its application is then practiced in a clinical setting under the supervision of a practice supervisor/practice assessor from nursing.
Course Content:
The course is under review and is designed to be flexible and tailored to individual needs. It can be studied over 9-12 months, full or part-time. The program includes the following modules:
- 6118HEAL Adult, Child and Mental Health Nurses: This module is designed for adult, child, and mental health nurses.
Course Schedule:
The course involves seven study days taught over the first three months of the program. These study days are held at the University. After the initial study days, students will go into practice within the LJMU practice area for a required length of time. The duration of the practice placement depends on the length of time since registration lapsed and individual needs. Students must be able to attend for a minimum of at least three days per week once they are on placement. 3-5 individual tutorials will also be provided to support students with their clinical experience and academic portfolio.
Assessment:
Assessment and successful completion of the course are judged against the new standards set by the NMC (2018/19). This is done through an academic portfolio, which is marked against academic criteria level 5 or level 6, and by practice assessment supervised by a practice assessor.
Teaching:
The course is delivered by a team of academic and practice staff. All resources are made available via LJMU's Virtual Learning Environment (Canvas).
Other:
The University may make changes to a program of study or module where such changes are deemed to be beneficial to students, are minor in nature and unlikely to impact negatively upon students or become necessary due to circumstances beyond the control of the University.
