Program Overview


This program equips students with professional video production techniques and various creative video production practices. By producing short films, working in teams, and completing an individual challenge, students develop a portfolio and showreel while gaining expertise in storytelling, editing, and film theories. The flexible teaching methods include asynchronous lectures, workshops, group/individual tutorials, and industry guest presentations, preparing students for careers in digital content creation.

Degree Overview:

This course is designed for individuals already working in or seeking to work in digital content creation. The program aims to equip students with a range of creative video production practices and professional video production techniques. Upon completion, students will be able to explain a creative concept to an expert panel.


Outline:

  • Course Content:
  • Development of skills in video production, animation, motion graphic practice, and creative production.
  • Understanding of how organizations adopt digital video content.
  • Production of four to five short films (30 seconds to 2 minutes) exploring different skills and techniques.
  • Work in different teams and roles for each brief, creating an individual portfolio and showreel.
  • Course content may include:
  • Professional video production skills, cinematography (lighting, sound, shot types, framing, etc.)
  • Storytelling techniques and narrative theories
  • Editing using industry-standard software (project setup, interface, organization of video documents, creating and editing visual elements, publishing digital media)
  • Film analysis
  • Film theories and practices (audience and reception theories, target audiences, and platforms)
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Presentation skills
  • Teaching and Learning:
  • Watching, analyzing, and discussing various film and video styles and genres.
  • Designing and formulating responses to briefs in small teams.
  • Asynchronous lectures and demonstrations exploring different aspects of video production.
  • Practical sessions and workshops for developing and practicing techniques.
  • Group and individual tutorials for formative feedback from peers and lecturers.
  • Analysis of professional video content and application of skills to individual video productions.

Entry Requirements:

  • GCSEs and equivalents: Applicants must have obtained grade 4 or grade C or above in English Language and Mathematics GCSE or an approved alternative qualification:
  • Key Skills Level 2 in English/Maths
  • NVQ Level 2 Functional skills in Maths and English Writing and or Reading Skills for Life Level 2 in Numeracy/English
  • Higher Diploma in Maths/English
  • Functional skills Level 2 in Maths/English
  • Northern Ireland Essential Skills Level 2 in communication or Application of Number
  • Wales Essential Skills Level 2 in Communication or Application of Number
  • A levels: 104 UCAS points from a minimum of 2 A Levels.
  • Maximum of 20 AS points accepted.
  • BTECs: BTEC National Diploma 104 UCAS Tariff points.
  • Access awards: At least 9 Distinctions and 36 Merits or any other combination that equates to 104 UCAS tariff points in a relevant subject
  • International Baccalaureate: 24 IB points

  • Alternative qualifications considered: Applications are welcomed from mature and non-standard applicants who will be considered on an individual basis.
