Program Overview


Secondary Education - Computer Science (6-12) Undergraduate Certificate

Overview

This 26-credit certificate is available only to students pursuing a BS in Computer Science. Students who complete both the BS in Computer Science and this certificate will be considered Virginia state-approved educator preparation program completers and will be eligible for recommendation for an initial VA teaching license in Secondary Education (6-12) Computer Science.


Admissions

  • Enrolled in the BS in Computer Science program
  • A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00
  • An official College of Education and Human Development review of discipline-specific content competencies coursework (note: a minimum grade of C must have been attained in such coursework completed at Mason)

Policies

Prior to application for internship, students are required to complete:


  • All discipline-specific content competency requirements
  • Pass licensure assessments
  • Have earned a grade of C or better in teacher licensure coursework

Licensure requirements must be met prior to applying for an internship. See your program handbook and/or program advisor for more information. Licensure requirements are determined by the Commonwealth of Virginia and may change at any time. If changes to these requirements occur, students must meet the current testing and licensure requirements as set forth in the legal Code of Virginia.
