Secondary Education - English (6-12) Undergraduate Certificate

Overview

This 26-credit certificate is available only to students pursuing a BA in English. Students who complete both the BA in English and this certificate will be considered Virginia state-approved educator preparation program completers and will be eligible for recommendation for an initial VA teaching license in Secondary Education (6-12) English.

Admissions

• Enrolled in the BA in English program
• A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00
• An official College of Education and Human Development review of discipline-specific content competencies coursework

Policies

Prior to application for internship, students are required to complete:

• All discipline-specific content competency requirements
• Pass licensure assessments
• Have earned a grade of C or better in teacher licensure coursework

Licensure requirements must be met prior to applying for an internship. See your program handbook and/or program advisor for more information. Licensure requirements are determined by the Commonwealth of Virginia and may change at any time. If changes to these requirements occur, students must meet the current testing and licensure requirements as set forth in the legal Code of Virginia.

This certificate may be pursued on a full-or part-time basis.

• SEED 492: Internship: Secondary Education English (Mason Core) (9 credits)
